Technology in Medicine Section

The section was established in 2009 by Professor Alan Roberts (immediate past Vice-President of the Royal Society of Medicine)

The practice of medicine has been revolutionised by technology. Rapid developments across the whole spectrum of healthcare are due in the main to technology. The application of engineering and materials science in unison with the physical sciences, for instance have established the field of bio-engineering as an integral part of medicine and surgery. All disciplines of medicine use and access technology, from basic instruments to complex life support and diagnostic machinery which make up a modern hospital or clinic.

The Royal Society of Medicine's new Section, Technology in Medicine, focuses on and encompass developments in this rapidly progressive area of healthcare. In its objective of supporting and progressing technology in medicine and surgery, the Section crosses many boundaries that remain defined in terms of everyday application and theory.
